I am an American doctor, author and artist, living in the United States in Seattle, Washington. I am board certified through the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology and also the American Board of Integrative & Holistic Medicine. My first book, Re-humanizing Medicine: A Holistic Framework for Transforming Your Self, Your Practice and the Culture of Medicine is set for publication November 28, 2014.

A primary interest in my work is creativity, spirituality and transformation in personal growth. With my book I hope to open up discussion about a counter-curriculum of re-humanization in medicine and society, as well as to take part in the ongoing compassion revolution in health care.

I started this blog as I was preparing to move to New Zealand, where I worked from 2010 to 2013. It started out as a way to post a few photos and to share my experiences in New Zealand with people back in the States. As the blog has evolved, I began to use it as a way to process some of the challenges of living in a new country and working in a new health care delivery system. The blog gives me a reason to reflect and try to put my experiences into words. With my move back to the States in 2013, the blog has taken a new focus on my writing, my book, and my creative work.
